2023 Vegan Guide to Taco Fest

The Beijinger’s FIRST EVER Taco Fest will be held this weekend, May 20-21st! But will you be stuck in a corner sadly sipping margaritas while your omnivore friends chow down on carnitas? I’m excited to announce that several vendors will be serving up a variety of vegan options (yes, plural), and Vegan in China has got the inside scoop!

Without further ado, here is the 2023 Vegan Guide to Taco Fest.

1.   Grassroots

We can always count on the OG vegan cheese geniuses at Grassroots to have our back at a food festival! Even the most skeptical of plant-based dairy will be impressed by the stretch and meltiness of their almond-based mozzarella.

Grassroots’ entire menu is 100% vegan: choose from their veggie quesadilla, spicy Z-rou enchiladas, and deep fried Mac & Cheese. Oh, and did we mention they have vegan soft-serve ice-cream? Yum!

2.   Las Musas

The main ingredient of Las Musas’ Tacos de Jamaica may surprise you... Ready for it?

Hibiscus flowers!

Now before you call “Vegan BS”, hear us out. When these flowers are cooked down, they take on a chewy, meaty, irresistible texture. Topped off with some vegan soy crema, they are light, decadent, and super delicious!

3.   Tacolicious

Tacolicious is coming up from Shanghai with a special vegetarian taco! Using a top-secret spice blend, the Zrou plant-based meat filling is marinated into mouthwatering chorizo. Opt for the fresh and smoky pico de gallo instead of the cilantro ranch to make it fully vegan.

4.   Taco GPT

Cheers Wines is moonlighting as Taco GPT and jazzing things up with their colorful Asian-inspired tofu taco topped with a shredded veggie slaw dressed in rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and maple syrup. They also have a black bean and corn taco, but vegans should ask for it with no cheese and sour cream.

Bonus: brush up on your taco trivia, because if you answer 4 questions correctly you have a chance to win some free food!

There you have it, 7 plant-based options should be more than enough to satisfy your ravenous appetite! Let us know which taco you’re most looking forward to trying.
